Nano silica has a three-dimensional network structure, large specific surface area and high activity, which can form a network structure when the ink is dry, increase the strength and finish of the ink, improve the suspension of the pigment, and keep the color of the pigment unchanged for a long time. If nano-silicon dioxide is added, the can opening effect of the ink can be obviously improved, so that it is not delaminated, and it has thixotropy, anti-flow hanging and good printability.
 
Therefore, whether nano-silica is used as an additive or a modified material, it is of great significance for the low cost of the ink industry, especially how to produce nano-sized ink adapted to the digital printing speed and fineness.
 
Nano silica used in polyamide ink
At present, the ink industry uses alcohol-soluble polyamide resin instead of alcohol-soluble polyamide resin, which uses dimer fatty acid as a monomer and adds isobutyric acid to introduce branched chain on the polyamide main chain, so as to improve the alcohol solubility of the resin and its stability in alcohol solvents. However, there are some shortcomings in the quality of alcohol-soluble polyamides, such as darker color, poor transparency, low gloss, poor solubility of alcohols than benzene, and serious gelation. The nano-silica particles were fully dispersed into the polyamide ink system through the sand mill. Due to the small size effect of the nano-silica, the viscosity of the polyamide decreased, the ink film formed was flexible and non-stick, and the wear resistance was better. The printing adaptability has been effectively improved.
 
Nano silica used in cooking-resistant composite ink
The role of nano-silica in the cooking-resistant composite ink is mainly to maintain the good fluidity and fineness of the ink to prevent pigment settlement; when printing, it can improve the flow and hanging performance of the ink film when printing on the machine, and prevent the occurrence of water lines; when coating, it is beneficial to the uniform coating of the adhesive, avoid the generation of air bubbles and improve the composite fastness. Due to the high fluidity and small size effect of nano-silica, the surface of the material is more compact and smoother, the friction coefficient becomes smaller, coupled with the high strength of nanoparticles, the wear resistance of the material is greatly enhanced. In addition, nano-silica has a better anti-aging effect on inks used for outdoor decoration, advertising and other printing products, and it can effectively reflect ultraviolet rays. After being added to the resin, it can greatly reduce the degradation of ultraviolet rays on the resin and improve the sun resistance of printed products, thus delaying the aging of materials. Therefore, for ink resin, the addition of nano-silica makes its anti-aging, friction resistance have been greatly improved, and also has the effect of anti-sticking and anti-sinking.

Hydro said the shutdown was a response to unfavorable conditions, including "no sign of improvement in high electricity prices in the short term". The smelter is operating at 60 per cent of its annual capacity of 175000 tonnes and will suffer huge losses if it continues to operate for the rest of 2022.
